Mimi Perry

A resident of Greenfield, Indiana, Mimi has been
involved in the training of
bloodhounds and search and rescue dogs since 2003
when her Akita Thor met the requirements as a
confirmation dog for the National Center for Missing
and Exploited Children (NCMEC), in cases of lost,
injured, missing, and abducted children.
She played an instrumental role in establishing the
criteria, performance
evaluation standards and regulations to assist the
Virginia State Police in
their efforts to establish a working bloodhound unit.
She then assisted the VSP
in the training of the first VSP bloodhound.   Mimi and
Thor acted as a
confirmation dog for the NCMEC for a number of
years before his retirement.  In
2004 Mimi began her association with Joe Canfield.
Throughout her career she has helped in training and
utilization of
bloodhounds with several search and rescue units in
the Indianapolis, Indiana
area.  She has also assisted Indiana law enforcement
with a number of search
efforts to recover missing persons.  In March of 2006
Mimi has met the
requirements with her Bloodhound; Maddie Lynn, to
respond to Amber Alerts
through the National Center for Missing and Exploited
Children in Illinois,
Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.  Mimi is also a founding
member of Advanced K-9 and
Indy Mantrailing K-9 SAR where she currently serves
on the board of directors
and as the treasurer.
Since establishing herself as a veteran bloodhound
handler she has assisted
in numerous seminars throughout the Midwest and
recently served as a instructor
at the June 2009 Joe Canfield K-9 Training seminar at
Keysville, Virginia.
She is a member of the American Bloodhound Club,
Canine Search and Rescue,
and trains to the standards of the National
Police Bloodhound Association.   Mimi has also passed
the pre-test for the
canine standards with the Indiana Department of
Homeland Security; which
includes tests in Agility, trailing and obedience.  She
also holds titles with
the American Kennel Club and the American
Bloodhound Club at the Mantrailing and
Mantrailing Intermediate levels.  In addition to these
accomplishments she
earned the AKC Canine Good Citizen award with her
Maddie.
Her current goal is to assist handlers in all aspects of
dog handling to
ensure that teams are qualified to respond to law
enforcement situations as
needed.
“I want to help handlers make that connection so
that they truly become a
professional, working team, asset to the people that
need them and reach that
level of professionalism that law enforcement needs
to assist in their efforts
in recovering missing persons.”
